It would make me a bit uncomfortable if I only had the Miata and one family size car. If you can keep your Integra as the beater, that would be a good idea. The van was the child transport, and we pretty much never ran into a situation where me having the Miata as my daily car was a problem. Honestly, and you can let your wife read this, it was never a problem. In 2010 and some of 2011, I had a 2006 Miata as my daily driver. Since my wife works full time, we have a live in nanny take care of the kids, so she drives the van mostly. We've got a Kia Sedona minivan for the child hauling duties. Family of five myself, my three kids are all young. Or we could put "her" van out to bake in our hot Sacramento summers while "my" two cars stay nice and cozy in the garage, but I have a feeling she won't go for that either.ĭoes anyone have experiences to share on how viable a Miata + minivan is for a family of five? I could keep the Integra as a "beater" out front (though it actually looks very nice), but someone tried to steal it a few months ago (albeit far from home), so I doubt it would last long in that situation. any suggestions on how to convince my wife that it's ok to replace my Integra with a Miata when she's pushing me in the other direction (Accord, etc.)? She drives a Chevy Astro, so mathematically speaking, we should be able to handle any transportation situation that arises (she's currently staying home with the kids), but I don't think she'll buy that argument. if I didn't have three kids and a two car garage. And the dash/console looks better than anything else I've seen. Then I sat in it, and discovered it fit me like a glove - far better than any other car I've experienced. Of course, I think the Miata is one of the best looking cars on the road, but there's no way my wife will allow me to buy a two-seater (we have three young kids), so I never gave it a second thought. When I stopped by the Mazda dealership (looking for the Mazda3), my five year old daughter made a beeline for the Miata. Internet research tells me that small cars with leather seats and manual transmissions are hard to find (under $30K), so I visited a local auto mall with roughly 20 brands to see if I had inappropriately discounted a viable alternative (V6 Mustang, etc.). I've enjoyed these past 12 years with my current car (2000 Integra GS-R), but it's burning a quart of oil each month, and I don't want to pour money into this and other things that may fail soon (power windows, etc.), so I'm looking at new cars for the first time in over a decade.
